Tier: OU
Base Stats: HP/255 ATK/10 DEF/10 SATK/75 SDEF/135 SPD/55
I did a few UU Pokemon, so I've decided to switch it up and go with one of the most overused Pokemon in the history of the franchise: Blissey!
Set #1: Cleric
Blissey @ Leftovers
[Calm] 252 def / 40 Satk / 216 Spd
Ability: Natural Cure
-Aromatherapy
-Softboiled
-Ice Beam
-Thunder-Wave/Toxic
This is the traditional Blissey from the anime, a healer pokemon. You can send Blissey in on a special attacker to heal status on your team or for some support, and then switch out when a physical attacker is switched in. This can often become predictable, however, so remember to switch up the pattern occasionally and attack on the switch. The last slot is simply for status and you can go either way, depending on the make up of the rest of your team. This Blissey works great on a rest-belling team.
Set #2: CM Blissey
Blissey @ Leftovers
[Bold/Modest] 252 DEF/252 SATK/ 4 HP
Ability: Serene Grace/Natural Cure
-Calm Mind
-Ice Beam
-Thunderbolt
-Softboiled
CM Blissey was the first version of the 4th gen DP Bliss once it was recognized that you could only get seismic toss in the a 3rd gen trade up. The traditional BoltBeam combo hits most opponents, and has a good chance of status if you decide to go with grace as your ability (However, natural cure is good for healing Toxic or t-wave on the switch out). Calm Mind boosts the mediocre special attack and the huge special defense to their limits. Its very one-sided and a physical switch in to ruin your CM boosts is inevitable, so only power up as much as you think you need to.
Set #3: Charm Blissey
Blissey @ Leftovers
[Calm] 252 DEF / 120 SATK / 136 SPD
Ability: Natural Cure
-Charm
-Light Screen
-Ice Beam
-Softboiled
A cool tricky Blissey that you almost never see, mostly because it has to be used very situational. First, switch Blissey in on a special attacker to absorb the damage. When the physical sweeper switches in the next turn, use charm to drastically lower its attack stat. On the next turn you use Light Screen to buff up Special Defense for the entire team. Finally, use Ice Beam and Softboiled to deal damage and heal for as long as you can before you need to switch out.
Summary: Blissey has been the very best special wall since GSC (and Chansey was one of the best in RBY as well) due to an HP stat that far surpasses that of any Pokemon, a huge Special Defense stat, and a special attack that is just good enough to let it deal damage. With a one turn healing move, status healing, several kinds of support moves, access to bolt beam and seismic toss, Blissey is also very unpredictable in its moveset. You'll be seeing a lot of her in OU, and even a great deal in UU, so you better be prepared to deal with the great special wall known as Blissey.
As always, feel free to post your comments and your own move sets. I hoped you enjoyed this POTW.
